What would cause pain in my hands at night?

i wake up like clockwork nightly. After 2 hrs of sleep I will wake with tingling in both hands. sleep will come again then an hour or two later wake with burning pain. My hands are stiff. I can not open or close them. To attempt to move them at all causes sever pain. As if the hand is broken. I have found no otc medication that will help the tingling,burning but also numbness pain. The only thing that does seem to help is to get out of bed. and try to move them to get flexibility back. the pain is to the point that I just cry. Three to four nights a wk I sleep only two to three hrs.
