Does distance make the heart grow fonder?

my ex claimed all last weekend that he cares deeply for me and can't loose me. he went on to say he missed me and i was the most important woman in his life and he would never let me go and still sees potential for there to be an us and we have something good here. but the tues before he said he wanted to be just friends until our lifes were sorted out. and monday he never called like he was supposed to he hung out with a female friend all day. he did text me goodnite on that day. well on tues i had had enough and let him have it i texted him angry stuff because he was being secretive about him and her and kept saying asking me those ? when i call you tonite. he got severly upset when i asked about him touching her or dating and he yelled he doesn't want any woman including me in his life but repeated what i metioned earilier. i told him i wanted us to work out but i couldn't offer anything but friendship and that yes i did love him and miss him. we agreed to respect each other
